Since my last news I have been pretty busy.
First I test sailed the new 2005 37' Tartan in the Gulf of Mexico with newly accounted broker of Tartan and C and C Yachts of Houston, Pat O'Neill. And that her maiden voyage too!
She's a beauty and sails like a dream machine! With all lines leading to the cockpit and Harken self-tailing winches, she makes single-handed sailing feel like a walk in the park! She comes with the latest new state of the art manufacturing processes. There is injection match molding, vacuum assisted molding and aerospace developed hi-tensile fabrics. She also has aircraft industry coring materials and epoxy resin systems. The 15 year transferable Warranty makes her a fantastic investment. What joy and freedom she will give her new owners!
I have been staying busy at the marina working on various sailboats: sanding woodwork and finishing with Cettol. I worked on a Cape Dory, an Island Packet and a Pearson. I also repaired two Yanmar engines.
I have spent many days pouring concrete and planting sod grass at the new RV parking lots for the marina. Starting to look good!
Took part in a race organized by the Palacios Yacht Club. The other yachts were no match for Island Time, and we won easily.
Climbed the mast of more sailboats, installing anchor and tri-color lights. Cut a 150-gallon leaking steel diesel tank into 6 pieces with a grinder and saws-all and removed it from a 35' motor-sailer.
Took the owner of a Westsail 28' on his first ever trip, teaching him motoring tactics in the harbor then out in the bay, taught him the ropes and sailing techniques.
Another race here in the bay and I crewed as tactician and sail trimmer with Robert and Cynthia Garret on their 35 'Hunter and we won by a mile!
I have also since hired a manager, John Forse, who from now on will represent me exclusively regarding the marketing of my circumnavigation. Bev and I are working on the book (when we are not working) and we have not forgotten the reception, just have it on hold until we get enough funds together to complete the presentation and the DVD. These have proved to be very costly indeed. Many thanks to Ronnie Shea and family for converting all my video footage onto DVD and for the initial set up of my presentation. Thank you too to Jaco who is inserting the video clips for me.
