It has been a long and hard few weeks, but we are making progress. Lots of small assignments, but the word is out and the business will come in slowly but surely.
Bev, Mom and I were invited to the Palacios Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet. I was to be the Guest of Honor. I have never been a Guest of Honor before and I was not sure what was awaiting me! Gary - thank you for the loan of the suit - I will really have to get one of my own.
It was a grand affair with everyone dressed in their semi-formal outfits. The hall was all lit up and the tables set. It really looked great.
We were seated at the Navigation District Table with two other couples. There were the usual speeches and a little fun entertainment to start the evening off. Bev interprested for me so that I could be aware of what was happening.
Dinner was good - chicken stuffed with ham and a lovely sauce served with rice and vegetables. Delicious cheese cake and strawberries for dessert!
And then - I was presented with an award. I was called onto the stage and I guess that is when my legs started to shake - thank goodness for the long trousers. The Chairman of the Board had read a short synopsis of my life culminating in my circumnavigation and then it was my turn to respond. Oh Boy -was I ever nervous! I hope that I spoke clearly enough for all to understand. Apart from a speech at my brother Gerrie's funeral, this was the only other time that I had stood up in public to speak.
Now I am on a roll, I can't wait for the Presentation to be completed and the DVD's as well so that I can get out there and tell the story! I was hoping that everything would be underway by now, but I have to be patient - it all takes time.
I should be sailing the new Tartan 3700 very soon and I am looking forward to that very much indeed.
